The Computer Lab is always buzzing when the Kindergarteners are there. Check out what bizzy bees they have been in the Computer Lab this year!
We hope you enjoy our work!
Tooth Tally
Kindergarten is counting lost teeth along with other Kindergarten-2nd Grade classes around the world in the Tooth Tally Project
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
To celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, which is March 2nd, Kindergarten celebrated by watching a video excerpt of the Cat in the Hat trying on many different hats while repeating "Cat in the Hat" in many different languages.
After the video, each Kindergarten student added a hat to a picture of the Cat in the Hat (without a hat) and here are the results!
December started out with Gingerbread activities. First, Kindergarten listened to Jan Brett read her book Gingerbread Baby and then they completed a Gingerbread Glyph activity. What's a glyph? It's a way to collect data using pictures. Check out Kindergarten's Gingerbread Glyphs to see how this works. Next up with the Gingerbread theme was decorating Gingerbread Cookies in the program Tux Paint. The students were introduced to the stamps with this activity and these were very popular!
For a Thanksgiving activity, Kindergarten students created Turkey Glyphs to tell a little bit about what they like and don't like at a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
Students watched a video about the life cycle of treesand then pretended to be a tree growing from a seed to an adult tree. After this activity, students drew pictures of autumn trees using the program Tux Paint. Getting new computers in the lab meant losing KidPix but all of the students are enjoying Tux Paint which is a free program that you can download and use at home! Check out Kindergarten's trees.
For Halloween, Kindergarten watched a video of a children's book about pumpkins and then worked together as a class to complete an activity about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Then it was art time and students drew pictures of jack-o-lanterns in the drawing program Drawing For Children. This is a free drawing program for Windows machines if you are interested in using this at home. Here is a showcase of Kindergarten's Jack-o-Lanterns!
Every year on September 15th-ish, educators around the world celebrate International Dot Day and this year Kindergarten participated in this event. They listened to the book The Dot written by Peter H. Reynolds and they made their own mark by drawing their very own dot (or dots) using KidPix. This is a great activity to work on mouse skills and to learn how drawing tools work in graphics programs. Check out Kindergarten's Dots!
